Originally conceived as a responsorial psalm for The Mass of the Lord’s Supper at Our Lady Immaculate, this could be used as a communion processional. This setting of the Song of Mary was written for the Poor Clares of Ty Mam Duw. The cantor sings the verses and the assembly responds with the refrain “The Almighty works marvels for me. Holy his name” with a simple choir descant harmony superimposed. Accompanied by piano and/or guitar.

Another flexible setting: The assembly has one refrain but the cantor can choose from three sets of verses, making this suitable for a number of occasions. At Everton we have used O Give Thanks to the Lord as part of the Liturgy of the Word but also as a processional during Eastertide. And we’ve used it after the first reading at the Easter Vigil with verses from Psalm 32, and the following morning with verses from Psalm 117. Scored for cantor, assembly and keyboard/guitar with optional descant (or SAB) and instrumental parts in C and Bb.
